Why should you copyright your work?
In 1988 the US government passed a law that all written work or art is automatically copyrighted. So why should you register your work? The copyright registration established a public record of your work and copyright. The copyright must be registered in order to take legal action against any inFringement (such as copying your work). If you have a registered copyright prior to any infringment that is proven, damages of up to $150,000 may be awarded to you. If you do not have a registered copyright and someone steals your work or art you will have to prove that it was yours before they used or promoted the work. If the copyright is registered this burden of proof is removed and you are protected.
We hear all the time about the "poor man's copyright" where you send a copy of your work to you using registered mail, then you keep this unopened copy as proof that the work is yours.
Hate to tell this, but that will not work in any court. Your work must be registered with the US government Office of Copyright before it is legal and covered by law.
Our fee is $99.99 and that includes the $45.00 filing fee and UPS shipping to the copyright office.
Why take a change with your valuable work, art, music, songs?
