Marketing

When should you start marketing your book? At least six months prior to the release date at the latest. Actually you should start telling people about your subject and book as you are writing so that interest is already waiting for the new release.

Before you start writing, ask yourself "who is the target reader or market?". It can determine how you structure the book, the title and general information contained in the book. Let's say you want to write about yoga. First look at Amazon.com and the local bookstores to determine what the reader does not have available. Notice the large number of titles. Should that stop you from producing another book on yoga. Not really just refine the target a bit. Instead of a general knowledge book, consider narrowing the subject to say yoga for teens, or yoga for new Mom's, or yoga for men.

After picking the subject, then start writing with passion. Talk with other people that are interested in yoga (or your field) telling them about your new book, talk with the yoga studios, spread the word.

When you are closer to the release date, follow up with flyers, asked if you can have a book signing, get business cards printed.
